NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test)

NEET, formerly known as AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test), is one of India's toughest pre-medical entrance examinations. This assessment is also conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency) every year for students who wish to pursue MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses. According to the Indian Government, appearing for NEET-UG is mandatory for candidates who want to study medicine in India as well as abroad. The exam is conducted by over 15 lakh students every year.

NEET is a written examination, and the admissions are given as per reservation. 27% reservation for OBC, 15% for SC, and 7.5% for ST. The NEET test paper consists of MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The test is of a total of 720 marks and entails negative marking.

Who is Eligible for NEET-UG?

  1. NEET-UG is a mandatory medical entrance examination for all India and overseas students who want to study medicine
  2. The test follows a particular age limit. The general category must be between 17 to 25 years, and for SC/ST/OBC/PWD, the age limit is 17 to 30 years
  3. There are 15% seats reserved for foreign nationals, overseas citizens of India, NRIs, and people of Indian origin
  4. Any student who has appeared for the 12th exams or appears for the 12th exams can apply for the NEET-UG entrance test. However, the admission will be confirmed only after clearing the 12th boards
  5. Students who have passed B.Sc from an India University in any two subjects from physics, chemistry, and biology (Botany & Zoology) or Bio-technology
  6. There is no restriction on the number of attempts in NEET. A candidate can give multiple attempts till they reach the maximum age limit
